Summary

The author spent 11 years to write the book and to get the complete essence of it, one should read at least a couple or triple of times。 On one hand, got late to the book - on the other, glad to have read it in time。 Will read this book again, mostly when vacationing。。 The book deserves for sure。

See on mu lemmik olnud aastaid, nii imeline raamat, korraga kogu maailmast, kõigest, mis on oluline, poeetilises lihtsas keeles。 Doris Kareva oli öelnud, et "Prohveti" tõlkimine oli talle aastate jooksul olnud nagu sahvrist mee võtmine: head asja ikka tasapisi, mõnuga ja lusika haaval。。。 Tõesti eriliselt hea tõlge。 See on mu lemmik olnud aastaid, nii imeline raamat, korraga kogu maailmast, kõigest, mis on oluline, poeetilises lihtsas keeles。 Doris Kareva oli öelnud, et "Prohveti" tõlkimine oli talle aastate jooksul olnud nagu sahvrist mee võtmine: head asja ikka tasapisi, mõnuga ja lusika haaval。。。 Tõesti eriliselt hea tõlge。 。。。more

The gateway drug to poetryI’ve never been a fan of poetry, but I guess it takes the best of the best as the “gateway drug” that could lure us into anything new。 And for a book written in 1923 which has since become an international bestseller for more than 9 decades, this book really delivers。The wisdom are plentiful, they cover many different aspects of life, and their message are timeless, while the simplicity of the flow ensures us that all of this can be read in just one sitting。These are so The gateway drug to poetryI’ve never been a fan of poetry, but I guess it takes the best of the best as the “gateway drug” that could lure us into anything new。 And for a book written in 1923 which has since become an international bestseller for more than 9 decades, this book really delivers。The wisdom are plentiful, they cover many different aspects of life, and their message are timeless, while the simplicity of the flow ensures us that all of this can be read in just one sitting。These are some of my favourites:On marriage: “Give your hearts, but not into each other’s keeping。 For the only the hand of Life can contain your hearts。 And stand together yet not too near together: for the pillars of the temple stand apart, and the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other’s shadow。”And on giving: “Generosity is not giving me that which I need more than you do, but it is in giving me that which you need more than I do。”Moreover, the version that I read has annotations by Suheil Bushrui that provide a much needed context (remember, I’m not a fan of poetry), which in several occasions even give me more gems than the original poetry。One such occasion is when Bushrui annotate a line by Gibran from his other book, which is just perfect, given the context of the poetry: “You are my brother and I love you。 I love you when you prostrate yourself in your mosque, and kneel on your church, and pray in your synagogue, you and I are sons of one faith - the spirit。” 。。。more

Giving it five stars is almost like trying to rate a necessity, how does one even begin to rate water? The Prophet is a reflection of knowledge you already have within yourself but have never been able to realize it。 It is like waking up and seeing the sun rise for the first time after a long night of complete and utter darkness, knowing somewhere at the other side of the planet, the sun is shining。 I cannot express enough how his words sung in my ears and warmed my heart。 This man is the defini Giving it five stars is almost like trying to rate a necessity, how does one even begin to rate water?

I read this with my husband, one section at a time, read at the end of the day。 He had read it before, but I hadn't。 There is much food for thought here, and the writing is truly beautiful。 I enjoyed the Audible version narrated by Michael Cramer and Kate Redding, because of the music interspersed throughout the writing。 It greatly enhanced the experience。 I read this with my husband, one section at a time, read at the end of the day。 He had read it before, but I hadn't。 There is much food for thought here, and the writing is truly beautiful。 I enjoyed the Audible version narrated by Michael Cramer and Kate Redding, because of the music interspersed throughout the writing。 It greatly enhanced the experience。 。。。more

Impressive as poetic。 Certainly, not inspirational。 Maybe you should read this “masterpiece” in 1923 !!!

Do I love this book or do I hate it? It's preachy and makes no pretence of it, it's dramatic and the language is as flowery as English can get。 The entire book is the wisdom dispensed by a know-it-all wise old man。 He teaches us lessons on life and everything that we can/should care about。 It's poetic, there are deep metaphors, and so many statements seem ambiguous, which seems intentional。 There are also pictures of pretty paintings! Of course, I love it。 Do I love this book or do I hate it? Wow。 Reading this, I felt the warmth of connection that I think Religion or Spirituality is supposed to feel like。 Something clicked for me。 I’m gonna have to read more of Gibran’s work。

I love metaphors and allegory so this was something I quite enjoyed。 It did have a few contradictions but otherwise was quite lovely。

The prophet answers the philosophical questions about life, love, emotions and death。 Written in a poetic way, the deep meaning of every phrase is sometimes difficult to apprehend。 One may associate innumerable meanings for a single phrase。The wisdom and learnings are extraordinary。 It incorporates in it the true meaning of life。 One needs patience and time to read every part of the book。 The book is mesmerizing and worth reading。

“Say not, ‘I have found the truth,’ but rather, ‘I have found a truth。’Say not, ‘I have found the path of the soul。’ Say rather, ‘I have met the soul walking upon my path。’For the soul walks upon all paths。The walks not upon a line, neither does it grow like a reed。The soul unfolds itself, like a lotus of countless petals。”

I read this years ago。 It was given to me by my Father in Law。 He described it as being a very deep an meaningful book。 Really powerful and moving with lessons for life that we all need to know for our salvation。 I thought it was utter bunkum。 It came up on a list of free books so I decided to give it another chance。 I am afraid my opinion is the same。。。。 it is utter rubbish。 I have no idea what it is exactly that he is trying to say。 My advice is don't waste your time!
